Summer

What activities can you do in the summer with kids? You could sign them up for a camp. You could join the Coding club at the Library, you could draw with chalk, or create a rocket, most importantly you could watch the stars. We as parents need to get our children active and engaged with there surroundings.

Natural Surroundings

Image
Hello, Today we went for a bike ride to our local lake.  When arriving we were able to make scientific observations like when the wind stops blowing the mosquito's will start biting you and how the carp were jumping from one water source to another.  We were able to use both engineering and science this morning in our discoveries.  Often times I don't think that kids or adults take time out of their days to really observe their surroundings.  We have a gift and we need to enjoy it.

Adventure today

Today is going to be going to a museum day. We are going to go explore a couple of museums. I feel that a lot of people overlook things like this. A majority of them are free. We are going to go on a scientific journey. Let the adventure begin.

Why STEM is important in teaching.

Good Morning Everyone, STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Now you might be wondering why this topic is important to me.  I feel that we are able to give the tools needed for our students/children for future jobs.  Here are some websites that offer more information about STEM and the importance of it.  https://iowastem.gov/resources/Cool%20STEM%20Websites https://iowastem.gov/resources/Cool%20STEM%20Websites . I was able to attend the Iowa Governors STEM event day.  It was a wonderful networking event with several different resources and guest speakers.  I learned how important it is to have your students have hands on experience to see if they would actually be interested in the field.  This saves our students money and time if they are not interested when they get to college.  The next website that I am going to share with you is the top 8 STEM Websites:  https://www.informationweek.com/strategic-cio/it-strategy...

My introduction

Hello everyone, I am a mom who has two children active in STEM related activities.  They have dissected a sheep heart, used DNA to solve a crime scene, built a solar powered car and windmill.  Please share some things that your children or students have done in STEM?  I am open to more ideas.
